History of Adi Kailash

Adi Kailash is a sacred destination situated in the Pithoragarh district of Uttarakhand. Lord Shiva was so moved by the devotion of Sage Parvati that he accepted her wish and resided at Adi Kailash with her. As per the beliefs Lord Shiva decided to make Adi Kailash his home so that he could answer the prayers and wishes of his ardent followers who travelled to this mountain.

The Earthly Abode of Shiva

Adi Kailash is considered to be Lord Shiva’s earthly home. It is said that Shiva meditated for thousands of years in this sacred region. As per various mythical texts, the presence of Lord Shiva in Adi Kailash signifies his unbreakable bond with his divine form and Goddess Parvati.

Connection to Ravana

In Hindu mythology, Adi Kailash is considered to have a close association with Ravana from the Ramayana epic. Ravana, who was the tale’s main villain, was a demon king and an ardent follower of Shiva throughout his life.

Despite having a deep devotion to Shiva, he utilized his superhuman skills for self-serving and harmful ends.

References to the Mahabharata

The Adi Kailash mountain holds great relevance in Hindu mythology, and Mahabharata, the legendary Indian. The Pandava brothers, Arjuna, Nakula, Yudhishthira, Sahadeva, and Bhima with their wife Draupadi are believed to have gone on a holy pilgrimage to this mountain to seek Lord Shiva’s blessings.
